2A District 1 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Kale Hixon and Darreal Williams provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Tonkawa. The longest such play in 2A District 1 this season, the connection resulted in 66 yards.
Alva was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to first in the league. Earlier in the week, the Goldbugs triumphed over Chisholm 54-7.
Perry's dynamic duo of Hixon and Williams proved tough for the Buccaneers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hixon threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns and Williams had 175 yards receiving. Austin Allen helped Perry's passing attack out by catching five balls for 76 yards.
Britton Yunker made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Longhorns lost to Alva. The 5-foot-8 sophomore recorded one fumble.
Levi Hill was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 132 yards as Hennessey defeated Tonkawa. Teammate Seth Ebers added to the ground attack by rushing for 27 yards.
Perry's Hixon and Williams have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A District 1 in both passing and receiving yards. Hixon has thrown for 526 yards this season, while Williams has nine catches for 260 yards. Bryce Stewart from Chisholm leads the league in rushing with 460 yards.
Joey Reinart's team moved up to 197 from 223 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Longhorns climbed the ranks as a result of a 54-7 win over the Longhorns.
