Baseball Game Preview: Donahue Catholic Shamrocks vs. Everglades City Gators

The Donahue Catholic Shamrocks are taking a road trip to face off against the Everglades City Gators at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Donahue Catholic has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Donahue Catholic took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Moore Haven, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Shamrocks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Terriers on Friday, sneaking past 17-16. The high-scoring effort was just what the Shamrocks needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Clement Valle was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Donahue Catholic is undefeated when Valle posts two or more runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nico Baalman, who scored three runs and stole five bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Donahue Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .617. They are 5-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Everglades City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 18-3 to Mason Classical Academy.

Everglades City's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Donahue Catholic, the win got them back to even at 5-5.

Donahue Catholic's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Shamrocks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Everglades City, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Donahue Catholic continue to outrun the ball?

Everything went Donahue Catholic's way against Everglades City in their previous meeting back in March, as Donahue Catholic made off with a 26-3 victory. Will the Shamrocks repeat their success, or do the Gators have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
