The Destiny Christian Academy Lions will take on the Sutter Huskies at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Destiny Christian Academy has three straight wins, Sutter has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Sutter's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Destiny Christian Academy hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Lions' pitcher stepped up to hand Rocklin a 1-0 shutout on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted since February 27th.
The result came thanks to Ayla Tuua's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Destiny Christian Academy secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Savanna Newman, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Sutter came up short against Bishop Alemany on Friday and fell 8-5.
Brooklyn Murphey was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Liliana Speakman and Ayla Moon stepped up to the plate in a big way. Speakman went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Moon went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Kara Roper was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Sutter's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Destiny Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 14-2.
Sutter's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Destiny Christian Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Sutter, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will Destiny Christian Academy keep running through batters, or will the Huskies buck the trend?
