Fremont and Garrett are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Railroaders at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fremont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Fremont got the win against Fort Wayne Canterbury by a conclusive 15-4. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Tyler Miller made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Miller was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Colten Guthrie was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ben Ford, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Fremont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Wayne Canterbury only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Garrett was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 15-6 to Leo.
Jackson Ice was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Keagan Jobe, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Fremont is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Garrett, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-13.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fremont has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Garrett struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fremont beat Garrett 7-3 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Railroaders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
