The John Champe Knights kicked off their season on the road on Monday and hit a couple of potholes. They were dealt a 65-33 loss at the hands of Potomac Falls. John Champe was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-13.
Potomac Falls' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Johnny Opiola, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and three steals. Opiola is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Margenau, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
John Champe's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Potomac Falls, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. John Champe will square off against Lightridge at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Potomac Falls, they will head out on the road to face off against Heritage at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Heritage will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 360th, while Potomac Falls is ranked 11th).
