The Benson Bobcats will take on the Tombstone Yellow Jackets at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Benson took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Desert Christian 10-9. The Bobcats haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Sadie Webb was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylei Taylor, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Benson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. They are 8-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Tombstone waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 15-4 victory. The Yellow Jackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by eight runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Liliana Garcia, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Bella Lopez was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Benson pushed their record up to 10-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Tombstone, their win bumped their record up to 10-12.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Benson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like Tombstone struggles in that department as they've averaged .393. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Benson might still be hurting after the 27-6 loss they got from Tombstone in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Bobcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
