Clovis has been on the road for four straight, but on Wednesday they'll finally head home. The Clovis Wildcats and the Miyamura Patriots will face off at 5:50 p.m. on December 20th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Miyamura took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Clovis, who comes in off a win.
Last Saturday, Clovis faced Rio Rancho in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Clovis secured a 58-52 W over Rio Rancho.
Zarai Lewis was her usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Clovis' points. Kailyn Jefferson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Miyamura's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 48-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Piedra Vista. While losing is never fun, Miyamura can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Piedra Vista is ranked 24th).
Clovis' victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points per game. As for Miyamura, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.
Clovis strolled past Miyamura in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a score of 46-30. Will Clovis repeat their success, or does Miyamura have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
