Kase Wynott of
Lapwai (Idaho) is leading high school basketball nationally in scoring at 39.2 points per game, pumping in more than 40 points in seven of his team's 12 games this season.
The 6-foot-6 Utah State pledge scored a career-high 57 points in his last outing, a 100-74 win over Logos (Moscow). He also put up 13 rebounds and 11 assists in that contest for his sixth triple-double of the season.
In addition to his national-best scoring average, Wynott is posting 14.4 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 3.5 steals and 3.3 blocks for the 10-2 squad.
As a freshman, Wynott averaged 14.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for a state title squad. He averaged 25.4 points per game as a sophomore as the Wildcats repeated as state champions.

Lapwai won 62 games in a row from the middle of his freshman year to the last game of the 2022-23 campaign, falling 81-79 to Lakeside (Plummer) in the Class 1A state championship game.
Wynott averaged 35.3 points and 14.4 rebounds per game last season as a junior. He topped 40 points in eight games and had three games with 20 rebounds or more.
This season, he is shooting 70 percent from the field, 55 percent from beyond the arc and 88 percent from the free throw line.
Against Genesee on Jan. 3, Wynott connected on 20 of 22 shots to finish with 47 points, 17 rebounds, 12 assists, five steals and four blocks.
Wynott is a big deal in the small community of Lapwai. When he signed with nationally-ranked Utah State in November, a line of young fans were waiting to get his autograph.
Lapwai returns to the court tonight against Kamiah (Idaho). Wynott is 75 points away from the Idaho career scoring record of 2,536 and could break that on Saturday against Potlatch (Idaho).
