Baseball Recap: Hanover Central's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Hanover Central had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt New Prairie on Saturday. The Wildcats blew past the Cougars 15-4. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Caiden Verrett was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Bowen, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

The win (which was Hanover Central's fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for New Prairie, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 12-6 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hanover Central will welcome Morgan Township at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cherokees have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for New Prairie, they will be playing at home against Boone Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wolves' pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
