Softball Recap: Friday's Win Is Muleshoe's Third in Last Four Outings

After only two runs in their last contest, Muleshoe made sure to put some runs up on the board against Abernathy on Friday. The Muleshoe Mules' pitcher stepped up to hand the Abernathy Antelopes a 16-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Mules, who have now won four games by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Zoe Bustillos made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Adalie Agundis and Addilene Blanco did most of the damage at the plate: Agundis went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Blanco scored three runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, Blanco posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Isabela Elizalde also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Muleshoe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .724. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Abernathy only posted an OBP of .111.

Muleshoe is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs over those games. Abernathy is on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Muleshoe has already played their next contest, a 24-4 win against Estacado on the 21st. As for Abernathy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 23-4 victory against Idalou on the 21st.
