3A District 5 recap October 1, 2013
Admiral Farragut moved up to 323 from 393 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A District 5. The Bluejackets climbed the ranks as a result of beating Carrollwood Day 49-35.
Shorecrest Prep fell to Indian Rocks Christian 48-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Jeff Smith was a passing and rushing force as Clearwater Central Catholic bested Trinity Catholic. He completed 5 passes for 100 yards and also ran for 167 yards. Smith's key target this week was J. T. Steele, who caught 4 passes for 84 yards.
Smith was the best running back in the league this week. In 9 carries, he ran for 167 yards as the Marauders beat the Celtics. Teammate Eric Davis added to the ground attack by rushing for 51 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Conor Regan and Danny Giordano, Calvary Christian has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Regan is tops in the league in passing with 550 yards, while Giordano has rushed for 611 yards this season. Clearwater Central Catholic's CJ Cotman leads the league in receiving yards with 172 on 10 catches.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place St. Petersburg Catholic takes on second place Clearwater Central Catholic.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when John Davis' team's Cotman goes up against St. Petersburg Catholic's Jaquan Fuller.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Marauders take on the Barons. Clearwater Central Catholic has allowed 40 points this season, while St. Petersburg Catholic has given up 85. The Marauders allowed 14 points last week as they bested Trinity Catholic.
Admiral Farragut made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,407 from 8,176. The advance stemmed from a 49-35 victory over the Patriots last week.
