After flying high against the Citrus Hurricanes on Friday, the Springstead Eagles came back down to earth. Springstead fell just short of Lecanto by a score of 44-41. While losing is never fun, Springstead can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while Lecanto is ranked 136th).
Springstead lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Niko Cordello, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Austin Nicholson, who scored six points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Speaking of assists, Springstead were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lecanto only racked up eight assists.
Lecanto found their leader in underclassman Jt Tipton, who scored 12 points along with four steals. The contest was Tipton's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Caden Moore was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Springstead's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Lecanto, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Springstead will head out on the road to face off against Hernando at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hernando has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Lecanto, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Belleview at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Belleview is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
