The Castle View Sabercats will head out on the road to face off against the Grand Junction Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Castle View sitting on four straight victories and Grand Junction on three.
Castle View is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Golden, who was ranked 17th at the time (Castle View was ranked second). Castle View blew past Golden 13-3 on Tuesday. The Sabercats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Derek Gordon was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Alexander Harris also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Gordon wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Castle View kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Grand Junction was not the first on the board last Monday, but they got there more often. Everything went their way against Silver Creek as Grand Junction made off with an 11-2 win. Considering the Tigers have won four games by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Titus Forsyth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits and racked up six Ks. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in May of 2024.
At the plate, Clayton Scarbrough and Sean Witt did most of the damage at the plate: Scarbrough scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Witt scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Espinoza, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Castle View's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Grand Junction, their record is now 7-2.
Castle View took their victory against Grand Junction in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 13-1. Does Castle View have another victory up their sleeve, or will Grand Junction turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
