Maggie Walker hasn't had much luck against Godwin recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Maggie Walker will take on Godwin at 6:00 p.m. Maggie Walker is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
James Monroe hit Maggie Walker with a five-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Maggie Walker fell 9-5 to James Monroe. Maggie Walker has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ashley Simmons and Hadley Walder stepped up to the plate in a big way. Simmons went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Walder went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Caroline Mansfield was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Godwin strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against James River Midlothian as they made off with a 17-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Lila Palmer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Adelynn Collins and Carter Dunham did most of the damage at the plate: Collins went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Dunham went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles Collins has posted since back in April of 2024. Laney Poulos also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Godwin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive contests.
Godwin pushed their record up to 11-0 with the victory, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Maggie Walker, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Maggie Walker hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Godwin struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Maggie Walker suffered a grim 22-6 defeat to Godwin in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Maggie Walker avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
