Basketball Recap: Pueblo East Picks Up 11th Consecutive Win

Pueblo East waltzed into their game on Friday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. They blew past the Pueblo County Hornets, posting a 61-28 victory. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 matches by 23 points or more this season.

Pueblo East's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ilyne Avila, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Avila is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted five or more in each of the last six games she's played. Emilee Hutchings was another key player, going 6-for-10 to rack up 13 points and six steals.

Pueblo East was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pueblo County only five assists.

Despite the loss, Pueblo County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tylee Glenn posted seven points along with six boards and three blocks. That's the most blocks Glenn has posted since back in December of 2024.

Pueblo East pushed their record up to 19-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.8 points over those games. As for Pueblo County, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-14.

Pueblo East and Pueblo County are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Eagles take on the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on March 1st. Falcon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.5 points per game this season. As for Pueblo County, they will challenge Widefield at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pueblo County is facing Widefield at the right time seeing as Widefield is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
