This season hasn't been kind to the Opp Bobcats, who are still winless after their tenth contest. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Elba an easy 52-31 victory. While losing is never fun, Opp can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 422nd, while Elba is ranked 131st).
Opp lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ashlyn Henderson, who scored six points along with seven rebounds. Dionna Stoudemire was another key contributor, scoring five points along with 15 rebounds.
Opp's defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-10. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.6 points per game. As for Elba, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Opp will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Brantley at 5:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Elba will finish 2023 at home by hosting Pike Liberal Arts at 6:00 p.m. on December 28th.
