Baseball Recap: Northern Durham Has No Trouble Against Hillside

While Northern Durham put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Hillside. The Knights blew past the Hornets 10-0. Considering the Knights have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Liam Hawkes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Northern Durham is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 4-6 otherwise. Hawkes was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, J.P. Rodio was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. He has become a key player for Northern Durham: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-6 otherwise. J.D. Williams was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Northern Durham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.

Northern Durham now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Hillside, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northern Durham will host Chapel Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Hillside, they will be playing at home against East Chapel Hill at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hornets are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
