Basketball Recap: St. Thomas Episcopal Comes Up Short

St. Thomas Episcopal was the 72-71 winner over Northland Christian when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The St. Thomas Episcopal Saints were just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 60-59 to the Northland Christian Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 591st, while the Cougars are ranked 276th).

Despite the loss, St. Thomas Episcopal still got an impressive performance from Chase Baker, who went 9-for-22 en route to 29 points and six steals. Baker has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Vlad Vatrachki, who went 5-for-7 on his way to 11 points along with five boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, St. Thomas Episcopal smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northland Christian only pulled down seven offensive boards.

Northland Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Spencer Townsell, who posted 18 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kameron McKnight, who earned 19 points.

St. Thomas Episcopal's defeat dropped their record down to 11-16. As for Northland Christian, their record is now 23-7.

St. Thomas Episcopal does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Northland Christian, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 76-52 victory against Veritas Academy on the 15th.
