Big North - Independence recap Oct. 23, 2012
Ramapo extended the longest winning streak in Big North - Independence this week by beating Paramus, 21-7. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Pascack Valley took down Northern Valley Regional 52-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Kyle Schneider threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns in the win.
The Indians' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Chris Garcia chipped in 205 yards. Mike Manente helped Pascack Valley's passing attack out by catching one ball for 60 yards.
Andrew Vigorita made the biggest impact on defense this week as West Milford lost to Bergenfield. The 5-foot-8 senior recorded one fumble.
Nick Soravilla was the best wideout in the league this week as Pascack Valley defeated the Norsemen. Soravilla tallied four receptions for 130 yards.
Craig Nielsen's team's Schneider and Soravilla have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Schneider has thrown for 1394 yards this season, while Soravilla, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 23 catches for 552 yards. The Bears' Will Rodriguez leads the league in rushing yards with 995.
The marquee game in Big North - Independence this week will be the clash between Ramapo and the Indians. Drew Gibbs' team enters the contest ranked 17th in the state, while Pascack Valley ranks sixth.
Bergenfield's Rodriguez needs only five yards against Northern Highlands next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
There should be lots of points scored when the Raiders and the Indians face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Ramapo comes in having scored 277 this season, while Pascack Valley has scored 275. The Raiders scored 21 points last week as they topped the Spartans.
