Trinity and Eastern Randolph are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Trinity Bulldogs will head out on the road to take on the Eastern Randolph Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Trinity's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches.
Even though Providence Grove scored an imposing 63 points last Wednesday, Trinity still came out on top. Trinity took down Providence Grove 77-63. Given Trinity's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 190th, while Providence Grove is ranked 453rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Trinity to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brandon Campbell, who scored 24 points along with five assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Dominic Payne, who scored 24 points along with nine rebounds and five assists.
Eastern Randolph suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Monday. They had to suffer through a rough 93-42 loss at the hands of Farmville Central. Eastern Randolph was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 67-25.
Eastern Randolph's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Timothy Brower, who scored 20 points, and Nicah Taylor who scored 14 points along with two steals. Taylor is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season.
Trinity is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Eastern Randolph, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Trinity hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 66.6 points per game. It's a different story for Eastern Randolph, though, as they've been averaging only 67.6 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Trinity came up short against Eastern Randolph when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 74-64. Can Trinity avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
