Mayfield and Middleburgh are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2015, but not for long. The Mayfield Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Middleburgh Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Mayfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Mayfield ended up a good deal behind Northville and lost 50-31. While losing is never fun, Mayfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 318th, while Northville is ranked 140th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Abigail Chest, who scored eight points along with two steals. Cloey Dopp was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Mayfield struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Middleburgh suffered their biggest defeat since December 6, 2023 on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 66-20 loss at the hands of Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville. Middleburgh has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mayfield now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Middleburgh, they bumped their record down to 1-11 with that defeat, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for Mayfield against Middleburgh in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 69-17 victory. With Mayfield ahead 35-10 at the half, the match was all but over already.
