La Crosse Central had lost four straight, but after bumping their record up to 3-11 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out the Aquinas Blugolds 6-5. That's more bragging rights for the Riverhawks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Morgan Pacl and Addie Lenz did most of the damage at the plate: Pacl went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI, while Lenz went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave Pacl a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mady Young, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: La Crosse Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
As for Aquinas, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by just one run.
On Aquinas' side, Abby Ziolkowski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Addy Watson was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those doubles were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryann Klar, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Looking ahead, La Crosse Central will square off against Sparta at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Aquinas, they will host Onalaska at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blugolds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hilltoppers have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
