New Trier is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Glenbrook North 3-2. That's two games straight that the Trevians have won by just one run.
Henrik Conniff tossed a big game, pitching 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cj Donnelly, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Zach Perchik was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Maine South won against Evanston on Saturday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Hawks walked away with a 6-2 victory over Lane Tech.
Connor Griffin looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
At the plate, Constantine Coines was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Evan Adamczewski, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
New Trier has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 29-7-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Maine South, their victory bumped their record up to 22-16.
