Basketball Recap: Laurel Skates Past Quitman with Ease

Laurel waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Quitman Panthers 62-31. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Golden Tornadoes just coasted through the last quarter.

Laurel was led to victory by Gracelyn Carmichael and Kayllis Walker. Carmichael posted 13 points and six steals, while Walker went 5-for-10 to rack up 15 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals. That's the most steals Carmichael has posted since back in February. Jahyla Dubose was another key player, shooting 60% from the field en route to 14 points and three steals.

Laurel smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Laurel's record now sits at 10-1. As for Quitman, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Laurel and Starkville will compete for holiday cheer at 2:40 p.m. on Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes will need to watch out since the Yellowjackets have now posted at least 55 points in their last three matchups. Quitman will take on Noxubee County in a holiday battle at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
