Foothill is 0-3 against Fairfield since March of 2024 but things could change on Wednesday. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. One thing working in Foothill's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
On Thursday, Foothill made easy work of Valley Christian and carried off a 19-6 win. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won four in a row.
Mercede Averett made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over five innings while giving up six earned runs off six hits. Averett was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and one triple.
In other batting news, Foothill got a massive performance out of Chloe Vaca, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Another player making a difference was Julianne Esquibel, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Foothill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2025.
Meanwhile, Fairfield unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 13-3 to St. Patrick-St. Vincent on Monday.
Karli Robinson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and nine unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 12 Ks.
On the hitting side, Aubrianna Beacham was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Bethany Johnson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Foothill's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Fairfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
