Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Grosse Ile

Grosse Ile had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Riverview Pirates. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Devils have posted against the Pirates since June 4, 2022.

Caleb Jones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Grosse Ile is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-15 otherwise. Jones was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of his seven plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joe Keenan, who got on base in four of his seven plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted over his last eight matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolton Bodner, who went 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

Grosse Ile pushed their record up to 10-15 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Riverview, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-26 record this season.
