After flying high against the Calvert Cavaliers last Wednesday, the Northern Patriots came back down to earth. Northern lost to Lanham Christian at home by a decisive 67-50 margin on Monday.
Despite the defeat, Northern had strong showings from Alec Johnson, who dropped a triple-double on 12 points, 12 rebounds, and ten blocks, and Emmanuel Powell, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Ellis, who scored nine points.
Lanham Christian found their leader in underclassman Diego Joy, who scored 38 points. The contest was Joy's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brandon Williams, who scored ten points.
Northern's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1. As for Lanham Christian, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northern will square off against Patuxent at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lanham Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against King's Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on December 12th. King's Christian Academy is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
