With a playoff game on the line, the Lansing Catholic Cougars rose to the challenge on Friday. They slipped by Michigan Center 35-34. The win was a breath of fresh air for Lansing Catholic as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Alex Fernandez got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 184 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Lansing Catholic also got help from Joseph Gulock who showed off his sure hands for 91 receiving yards.
Michigan Center's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Hadyn Hinkle, who threw for 260 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Hinkle was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 55 yards. Another player making a difference was Hunter Clemons, who picked up 100 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Lansing Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Michigan Center, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
Lansing Catholic is on the road again on Friday and play against Ovid-Elsie at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Ovid-Elsie will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Michigan Center does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
