Basketball Recap: St. Francis Indian Drops Season-High Score on Todd County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Francis Indian). Everything went their way against the Todd County Falcons on Saturday as the St. Francis Indian Warriors made off with an 87-62 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Warriors also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

St. Francis Indian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but John Gunhammer led the charge by going 6 for 14 en route to 20 points in addition to five assists and five boards. With that strong performance, Gunhammer is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. Roger Roether III was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 21 rebounds.

Gunhammer wasn't the only one working in the assists department: St. Francis Indian was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Todd County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kendrik Easter, who posted 13 points along with eight assists and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Oniya Whirlwind Soldier, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 17 points.

St. Francis Indian's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-4. As for Todd County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.

St. Francis Indian will square off against Crazy Horse at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Francis Indian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.2 points per game this season. As for Todd County, they will challenge Crow Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
