The Shoshoni Wranglers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their eighth straight defeat. They were outmatched by Wyoming Indian on the road and fell 65-12. Shoshoni was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-9.
Shoshoni lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kaylor McConnaughey, who scored nine points along with three steals. McConnaughey has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Shoshoni struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Shoshoni's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.5 points per game. As for Wyoming Indian, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shoshoni won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Rebels at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Wyoming (Riverside is ranked 43rd, while the Wranglers are ranked 60th). As for Wyoming Indian, they will head out on the road to take on the Grizzlies at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Rocky Mountain focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Friday.
