Baseball Game Preview: Evansville North Huskies vs. Jasper Wildcats

The Evansville North Huskies will face off against the Jasper Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Evansville North 3.8, Jasper 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Jasper will be up against a hot Evansville North team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Huskies blew past Southridge 7-1 on Wednesday.

Conner Watson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jake Wilke and AJ Baggett did most of the damage at the plate: Wilke got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, while Baggett went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Wilke has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aaron Humphrey, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Jasper unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against Castle, falling 9-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wildcats have suffered against the Knights since April 11, 2019.

Evansville North's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Jasper, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-6.

Evansville North came out on top in a nail-biter against Jasper in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
