After a string of four wins, the Piedmont Wildcats's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost to Mustang on the road by a decisive 55-38 margin. While losing is never fun, Piedmont can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while Mustang is ranked 21st).
Mustang's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cherish Haywood, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Haywood hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Mya Alston, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Piedmont's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-10. As for Mustang, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piedmont's road trip will continue as they head out to face Capitol Hill at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Mustang won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against MacArthur on January 20th.
