The Discovery Spartans will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Mulberry Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Discovery came up short against Sebring on Tuesday, falling 10-3. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Conner Faulkner was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, Zion Philpot made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two triples, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Maddox Rosado, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Mulberry faced off against Hardee on Tuesday. The Panthers lost 10-2 to the Wildcats.
Mulberry also got a good showing from Connor Kindle, who tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Mulberry saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Phonix Anderson, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Cesar Salazar also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Discovery's record is now 6-3. As for Mulberry, their record now sits at 0-7.
