The Thomas Heyward Academy Rebels's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their tenth straight defeat. They were beaten by Cross 53-13. Thomas Heyward Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-2.
Cross' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ryan Mayers, who scored ten points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. Mayers has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Genesis Wilson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six assists and four steals.
Thomas Heyward Academy's loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Cross, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thomas Heyward Academy will challenge the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Patrick Henry Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Thursday. As for Cross, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Sundevils at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. Charleston Collegiate will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Stingrays are ranked 98th).
