Even though the Carson Colts have not done well against the Gardena Panthers recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Carson sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 57-55 victory over Gardena. The win was all the more spectacular given Carson's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 750th, while Gardena is ranked 289th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Carson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jacob Ortega, who scored 23 points. Ortega is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Chris Ferrell, who scored 14 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Carson and bumps their season record up to 9-14. As for Gardena, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carson will take on Banning at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Banning has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Gardena, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Narbonne at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Narbonne is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
