Morenci extended the longest winning streak in V Section III this week by beating San Carlos, 76-0. The victory was the 10th in a row for the team.
Morenci led the league in scoring this week after putting up 76 points on the Braves. Emilio Duran threw for 45 yards and one touchdown and ran for 28 yards in the win.
Jacob Frithsen and Taylor Fitzgerald gave Pusch Ridge Christian Academy a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Frithsen threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns, while Fitzgerald ran for 195 yards. Joey Lowery also contributed to the rushing game with 57 yards on the ground.
Jacob Drage was the best wideout in the league this week as Thatcher bested Bisbee. Drage racked up four receptions for 84 yards. Sam Bagnall helped Thatcher's passing attack out by catching one ball for 14 yards.
Drage made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Eagles defeated the Pumas. The 6-foot-6 senior recorded one fumble.
Thatcher's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Eagles feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Presley Motes has thrown for 1662 yards and 18 touchdowns this season, while Drage has 51 catches for 990 yards. Garet Kartchner leads the league in rushing with 1023 yards.
Drage of the Thatcher's is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 10 receiving yards in this week's game against Benson to get there.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Dave Jefferies' team takes on the Bobcats. At the moment, the Eagles are in second, while Benson is in fourth.
Chris Determan's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,889 from 8,138. The improvement was the result of 49-6 victory over Tombstone last week.
