Glencoe had lost five straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 7-13 to make it six. They lost 9-1 to the Sherwood Bowmen. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bowmen this season, with their most recent loss being a 10-0 defeat on Wednesday.
Glencoe got a good showing from Ethan Penner, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, Penner didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April.
On the hitting side, Glencoe saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camden Roofener, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
As for Sherwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.
On Sherwood's side, Connor Parry made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Parry has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Lopez, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Brown, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Glencoe is set to square off against their familiar foe Liberty at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Sherwood will face off against rival McMinnville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bowmen 2.9, the Grizzlies 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
