After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Cross County, the Centura Centurions were happy to have found some success on Friday. They walked away with a 52-41 victory over Sandy Creek. Given Centura's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Sandy Creek is ranked 241st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Centura's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kennedy Davis, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and six blocks. Those six blocks set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyra Wooden, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Despite the loss, Sandy Creek saw an underclassman step up: Emma Fisher dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Fisher scored a full 29.3% of Sandy Creek's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ella Martin was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Centura's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Sandy Creek, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
Centura is on the road again on Saturday and play against Howells-Dodge at 2:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Hopefully Howells-Dodge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Friday. As for Sandy Creek, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Fort Calhoun at 11:00 a.m. on December 30, 2023. Fort Calhoun is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.9 points per game.
