It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Clinton Red Devils had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 38-7 victory over Broome. Considering Clinton has won eight games by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Leading Clinton to victory were Tray Cook and Tushawan Richardson. Cook rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, while Richardson rushed for 18 yards and two touchdowns. Clinton also got help from Kadon Crawford who showed off his sure hands for 102 receiving yards.
The victory was the sixth in a row for Clinton, bringing their record for this year to 10-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-10 Emerald and 1-9 Union County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 40.2% over those games). As for Broome, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.
Clinton will head out on the road to face off against Belton-Honea Path at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Belton-Honea Path's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season. Broome does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
