Robertson has gone a perfect 10-0 against Raton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Cardinals will head out to take on the Tigers at 3:00 p.m. Robertson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Robertson took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against West Las Vegas, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cardinals had just enough and edged out the Dons 4-3 on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Cardinals have won by just one run.
Connor Bonney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Robertson's win was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Elijah Ortiz, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Raton came tearing into Monday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 10-9 W against the Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since March 28, 2024.
Azden Romero made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Raton is 4-2 when Romero allows two or fewer hits, but 3-6 otherwise. Romero was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Chase Middlebrook was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
The win made it two in a row for Robertson and bumps their season record up to 10-5-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Raton, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-8.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Robertson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Raton struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Robertson's way against Raton in their previous matchup back in March, as Robertson made off with a 16-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
