The Hamburg Hawks lost against the Minersville Battlin' Miners back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Hamburg took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Minersville. While losing is never fun, Hamburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 701st, while Minersville is ranked 244th).
Minersville found their leader in underclassman Shazier Bethea, who scored 25 points. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Bradley Kostishak, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Hamburg and nudges their season record down to 2-7. As for Minersville, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Schuylkill Haven the next time they take the court. Hamburg will head out to face Schuylkill Haven at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Minersville will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
