The Osmond/Randolph Hawks and the Plainview Pirates will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 25th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Osmond/Randolph focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 39 on Tuesday.
Osmond/Randolph suffered their biggest defeat since December 21, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 56-29 defeat at the hands of Laurel-Concord-Coleridge. While losing is never fun, Osmond/Randolph can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 241st, while Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is ranked 93rd).
Keli Aschoff put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 15 points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, Plainview came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Hartington-Newcastle by a score of 48-36.
It was another big night for Abbie Kromarek, who scored 19 points along with nine steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that she posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Teya Boyer, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Osmond/Randolph's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Plainview, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
Thursday's matchup is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Osmond/Randolph have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Plainview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Osmond/Randolph came up short against Plainview in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 43-35. Can Osmond/Randolph avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
