After losing to the Tesoro Titans the last time they met, the San Clemente Tritons decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. San Clemente came out on top against Tesoro by a score of 48-39 on Friday. Given San Clemente's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Tesoro is ranked 356th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
San Clemente's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Will Whidden, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Whidden is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Chase Tolliver, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
San Clemente has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Tesoro, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-13.
San Clemente will look to defend their home court on Friday against Capistrano Valley at 7:00 p.m. As for Tesoro, they will head out on the road to face off against Trabuco Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Trabuco Hills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 last Saturday.
