Pueblo West (Colo.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 11 in Colorado, but was stunned by
Monarch (Louisville, Colo.), 14-6. Monarch was ranked at No. 17 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Colorado coming into the week.
The Coyotes were up 7-6 at the half after taking the lead on a
Ethan Marks touchdown run in the first quarter.
The loss snapped the Cyclones' 12-game winning streak.
Derek Jackson played well for Pueblo West. The senior ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 29 touchdowns on the season.
Marks played well for Monarch in the victory. He ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 15 touchdowns on the season.
PW's lone touchdown came on an 80-yard run by Jackson in the first quarter.
MHS had given up an average of 10.8 points prior to the contest. The six points that the Cyclones ended with were well below their average of 38.8 coming into the game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Pueblo West, which notched a 50-27 victory over Windsor in its previous outing.
