Vasquez and The Palmdale Aerospace Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Mustangs just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Griffins at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Vasquez comes in on seven and The Palmdale Aerospace Academy on six.
Vasquez is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing St. Monica Academy: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Mustangs blew the Crusaders out of the water with a 67-35 final score. That looming 67-35 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Mustangs yet this season.
Vasquez got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Noah Rowley out in front who shot 64% from the field en route to 15 points and five boards. Oliver Gates was another key player, going 6-for-11 on his way to 12 points.
Vasquez was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They are 6-1 when they've passed the ball that well.
Meanwhile, The Palmdale Aerospace Academy beat St. Monica Academy 55-43 on Tuesday. Given the Griffins' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 189th, while the Crusaders are ranked 816th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The Palmdale Aerospace Academy's win came from a few key players Vasquez will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Adrian Rivas, who shot 56% from the field to rack up 12 points and three blocks. Those 12 points gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jacob Sacopla, who went 5-for-12 en route to 15 points and five rebounds.
Vasquez's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for The Palmdale Aerospace Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Vasquez has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.8 boards per game. However, it's not like The Palmdale Aerospace Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.5 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Vasquez came up short against The Palmdale Aerospace Academy when the teams last played back in January, falling 58-52. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
