Riverton Parke took care of business in their home opener on Monday (barely). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Crawfordsville Athenians. For Riverton Parke, this counts as revenge for the 9-0 defeat Crawfordsville walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2023.
Derek Collom was excellent, going 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Roberts, who went 1-for-3 with a home run.
On Crawfordsville's side, Jude Coursey was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Coursey was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Wyatt Motz was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs, and a stolen base. Another player making a difference was Henry Bannon, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Crawfordsville didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with 13 strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverton Parke only tossed five.
Riverton Parke will head out on the road to take on Terre Haute North Vigo at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Crawfordsville, they will square off against Siegel at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
