The Irmo Yellowjackets scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They skirted past Lugoff-Elgin 66-64. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Irmo as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Claire Howard was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Andrea Collins, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Lugoff-Elgin lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jillian Rush. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 35 points and 14 rebounds. Rush is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendra Wilson, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Lugoff-Elgin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 32 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Irmo only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
The victory got Irmo back to even at 8-8. As for Lugoff-Elgin, their loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-17.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Irmo will face off against Richland Northeast at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Richland Northeast is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they will head out on the road to take on Ridge View at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Ridge View presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lugoff-Elgin in South Carolina (Ridge View is ranked 25th, while Lugoff-Elgin is ranked 158th).
