On Friday, the Woonsocket Villa Novans faced the Westerly Bulldogs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Woonsocket fell 52-44 to Westerly. Woonsocket was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Westerly apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February.
Woonsocket lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jeriel Vazquez, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. The match was Vazquez's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Juelz Stengel, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Woonsocket and nudges their season record down to 2-3. As for Westerly, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Woonsocket is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Cumberland at 7:30 p.m. on December 27th. Westerly will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against South Kingstown at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Kingstown will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
