The Greene Central Rams and the Wallace-Rose Hill Bulldogs squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Greene Central Rams had to settle for second. Greene Central took a serious blow against Wallace-Rose Hill, falling 55-6. Greene Central was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-6.
When it comes to explaining why Greene Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is James Ballard. Despite the final result, he rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown.
Wallace-Rose Hill got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Irving Brown out in front who rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also picked up 98 receiving yards and a touchdown. Brown was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 67 yards. Another player making a difference was Corbin Kerr, who rushed for 185 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.3 yards per carry.
Greene Central's defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 4-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-2 SouthWest Edgecombe and 9-3 Farmville Central (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.1% over those games). As for Wallace-Rose Hill, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-4.
Greene Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Wallace-Rose Hill will be playing at home against Hertford County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hertford County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully Wallace-Rose Hill likes a good challenge.
