A feisty cat fight will be fought as Rancho Cotate Cougars challenge Windsor Jaguars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Rancho Cotate is headed into the game having just suffered their closest loss since March 22, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Maria Carrillo by a score of 14-12.
Izabella Harumi was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Isabella Scardina was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Windsor posted their closest victory since May 6, 2024 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over Cardinal Newman. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Kaihla Jarvinen was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up five earned runs off nine hits. Jarvinen was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Jarvinen wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Haley Homan, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Pearl McKay also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Windsor is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. Rancho Cotate now has a losing record of 1-2.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rancho Cotate hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Windsor struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rancho Cotate suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to Windsor in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Rancho Cotate avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
